Long ago, communities thrived in our paradise based on the simple concept of Malama the Aina. This wisdom to be caretakers of the land, to only take what is needed, to replace what is taken, and to be in place and at balance with all surroundings have been the driving forces in Hawaiian life.
I am so happy to drive down around Kaneohe on weekends and see this legacy and responsibility being passed on to today's modern Hawaiian. So much like the knowledge of old that comes through the mile and the dance, so to does the Hawaiians love of land.
