Thanks for stopping by to view over 50 years of LOVE. Here you may find several galleries of work done by Len when he first started to paint up to the present. If Len has enough courage and just for laughs, he may even post a watercolor he did while a student at Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Check back often for new additions made from week to week as Len recovers pieces that have been stored away for many years and have never before been viewed by the public.
So, choose your favorite gallery or view all of them. ENJOY!
Len was born in 1934 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. After 4 years aboard a minesweeper in the U.S. Navy, Len matriculated the Vesper George School of Art in Boston where he studied under such greats as Jack Callahan and National Academician Don Stone, who influenced Len's work profoundly. After graduating from Vesper George, Len pursued a commercial art career in the Boston area. In 1977 Len returned to the beautiful Berkshires to paint and teach art for the Adams/Cheshire School District and the Pittsfield Boys Club.
Len's painting style, whether oil, watercolor, or acrylic, is impressionistic. He compares the act of painting to building a picture puzzle- the colors and brush strokes must be placed correctly for the composition to be successful. Most importantly, however, is Len's ability to capture the vagaries of Berkshire light in his landscapes of the region. He favors painting en plein air thus giving his work spontaneity and freshness.
Len's many professional memberships have included the Boston Water Color Society, American Artist Professional League, Kent Art Association, Framingham Artist Guild, Natick Art Association, and the Pittsfield Art Association. His award winning paintings of the Berkshires and Southern Vermont were shown and sold in Vermont's Peel Gallery and are included in many private and public collections. Len's paintings have won over 30 important awards, including 1992 North Shore Art Association (Excellence in any medium), 1991 The Kent Art Association best in show, 1992 Central Berkshire Chamber of Commerce Art Commission and many more.
