aguna Niguel artist Isabella McGrath,aka artisabella,developed an unusual art form using x-rays and photography. Ms. McGrath discovered the unique techniques of combining x-ray technology and photography 14 years ago at Columbia College in Chicago. Ms. Isabella McGrath graduated from Chapman University in 2008 with a BFA in Studio Art and in 2011 completed a BA in Art History also from Chapman University.
Ms. McGrath decided to resume the project a few years ago here in Laguna Niguel. She scans the x-ray film into a computer and then works with a digital photo of the flowers that have just been x-rayed themselves.
Isabella’s merging of classical still-life subject matter with contemporary composition have astounded art enthusiasts. Most notable is Isabella’s medium: X-Ray technology. Isabella has been working with X-Ray photography for over a decade. She loves the whole process, from taking the X-Rays (yes, they are really X-Rays of flowers), taking the photos of the flowers, and then combining them in Photoshop to make wonderful photomontages. Isabella has also made abstract paintings, quilts, taken countless photographs, and made numerous printmaking editions.
