Description
The Enipeas canyon is a wonderful trail in the foothills of Mt.Olympus. Enipeas is a river of Pieria. The name of the river comes from some sea deity, father of Pelia and Nilea and husband of Tyro. This is the personification of Neptune. According to Greek mythology, the musician Orpheus was destroyed by the Maenades in the Enipeas Gorge, while the beautiful Lito was bathing in the river.
A few years ago we hiked through the gorge along with some friends. We chose to descend the trails, so we started from Prionia and walked the 10km of the gorge to reach Litochoro village after about 5 hours. The trail is renowned for its beautiful densely vegetated landscape.
In this photo you can see a wooden bridge located somewhere in the trail. It was Spring so all the trees had fresh vibrant green leaves. It was a warm sunny day with average temperature making a perfect day for a long and difficult hike. The river was full of water and birds were singing in the woods. Such a peaceful place to walk along with friends.
