Original watercolor painting, 'Western Butterfly Assortment', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. 2020 was a year of butterflies for me. I saw several new species. I decided I wanted to draw upon that today and paint many of them in a single composition, also adding two I saw over ten years ago for more species variety. Fritillary, copper, blue, white, ringlet, parnassian, admiral, and skipper butterflies are all featured in this colorful piece. I left many of the butterflies more transparent, but deliberately made the background very dark and opaque, in order to create strong contrast. Due to this, this is a less traditional watercolor. A nature inspired collage-style painting of butterflies from Colorado.
