Description
The visual appeal of the multiple materials used to make this pocket watch, the intricacy of its moving components, and the beautiful and delicate etching on the rarely seen interior of the watch, are testament to the skill and pride of craftsmen from a by-gone era. The craftsmanship inside this pocket watch is a work of art all by itself. The watch was made under the trade name, G. M. Wheeler, by the Elgin Watch Company in 1888. A popular watch of the day this is one of 74,000 of this 15 jewel model. It is now part of the collection of the Elgin History Museum, Elgin Illinois. This image is included in the Art in Artifacts exhibit.
