Description
Moses sat on the wooden plank that pretended to be a seat in his rowing boat. He had set out last night and was headed to the near island to meet a girl, but had gone slightly out of his way. He was starting to realise that he was actually several miles out of his way, headed across the English Channel...
The sea was a little rougher than he had thought it would be. The clouds overcast and moving quickly across the sky. His little boat bibbed and bobbed with each wave, each one slightly a bigger bib, or a larger bob, than the one before.
He squinted slightly as he tried to see across the horizon, and something in his heart started to tell him that all may not be well with his short trip.
Several hours passed, the weather ebbing and waning, rain, sun, rain, sun, and he finally sat in the boat, discombobulated and just becoming a little cheesed off and a lot hungry.
Just as a giant rogue wave hit the little wooden craft, tipping him into the swell, from behind him he heard a distant whistle, and the sound of sails flapping, men shouting, and a holler most welcome. 'Ahoy me lad, are you lost?"
Scrambling up the rope netting at the side of the ship was not an easy task, but he managed it, being roughly dragged up the last feet by burly strong arms. The men looked him up and down and laughed heartily when he explained wherefore he was headed.
They told him they were cloud chasers. He knew they must be having a good joke as cloud chasers were a legend, myth! It was said in his village that, if you died at sea, the cloud chasers found you and took you with them chasing clouds for all time. These men looked very much alive and he laughed and slapped his thigh with glee at their jest.
The ship hoisted its sails and, with a whoosh of air she cut across the water gracefully, water splashing off her hull, bow slicing through now huge waves that broke the little capsized boat in two.
Moses, now part of the crew, soon forgot his journey and drowning, as he joined in, searching and chasing the clouds.
