Description
Viper’s bugloss is a member of the borage family and was originally native to most of Europe and Asia. However, humans introduced it to North America some time ago and it has since naturalized quite well. You can find it in stony fields, on gravelly slopes, along roadsides and in other spots that would seem rather inhospitable. This particular example shows off its colorful blue-purple flowers in the afternoon sun along the edge of the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, just a few miles south of Front Royal Virginia.

Beautiful! I love the focus on the flower with the silhouettes of mountains in the background.
