Description
1867 hand drawn map of Cairo, Illinois, by famed 19th century cartographer Albert Ruger. Cairo was a strategic riverboat shipping center located at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Ruger displays the mighty Ohio River, replete with riverboats--the Ruth and Cumberland paddle-wheel boats are clearly visible. Shipping activity is visible on the Mississippi in the maps background. The panoramic map identifies Cairo's churches, businesses, U. S. Commissary and Customs House.
Albert Ruger is credited with developing and perfecting the craft of panoramic maps in 19th century America. The prolific cartographer produced maps of cities in 22 states from New England to the Midwest and south to Alabama.
This partially restored map is the perfect addition to any home or office decor. Multiple print styles and mat/framing options offer buyers the opportunity to customize their Cairo, Illinois, map.
