Verligka alpine lake panorama. On the 7th and 8th of June 2014, I and my friend Spiros Paschos visited one of the most beautiful alpine lakes of Greece. From my point of view I say that Verligka is the most beautiful. At that time the images that we had seen from this wonderful lake, were coming only from hikers and mountaineers. So we may be the first photographers who visited this place in order to capture it with our cameras.
The lake is located on mount Lakmos, Trikala regional unit - Greece, at 2,050m. This is a panorama of the scenery where the lake is "born" each year when the snow melts from the surrounding peaks. The water inside the lake "escapes" through the rocky terrain that is seen to the left of this panorama and on its way down it creates the Aspros (White) river that is widely known as the Achelous, the second largest river of Greece.
Verligka or Vrigga lake in Vlach language means "circle". The myth says that a giant beast or dragon or even possibly a black ram jumped once out of the rock, twirled around forming the Verligka lake and then lost forever inside the guts of Lakmos mount, where the water is lost underneath the rock to fill in his travel the riverbed of Achelous.
High-quality imagery by Elias Pentikis with his own hand-written signature provided with a 30-day money-back guarantee from Fine Art America. Canvas prints, metal prints, fine art paper prints, framed prints.
