Description
This image is a photograph of a Vanda Orchid. This particular type of orchid originates in Asia; mostly South East Asia. The true name for this particular orchid is Vanda coerulea supra, which can be interpreted as a "Superior Blue" or a "Blue Monday". They are also known as "Lord Rothschild's Variety".
Orchids grow best with their roots bare or in very coarse potting soil, such as corks, charcoal, and coarse orchid bark. If you were to own this type of Orchid, you would need to water it every day, because it has no means to store water. This particular variety of orchid likes the temperature to be 70 - 90 degrees, with a 15 degree drop at night. They like the humidity to be somewhere around 70% and would not do well if the humidity dropped to 50% or lower.
The Vanda Orchids can blossom up to three times per year. This particular Orchid I photographed at the Cleveland Orchid show a couple years back.
