Description
Two Jewel Doves Ketubah art by Michele Avanti
I am completely fascinated by the ancient Hebrew practice of creating a piece of art for the wedding vows between a bride and groom. I think it is a wonderful custom that reminds the couple every day of the vows they have made to each other. I have created this work of art - ketubah. It is two doves, the symbols of loving peace. Each is filled with jewels, as each person carries the jewels of their love, thoughts, emotions and talents that they bring into a relationship. As these two doves come together they form a whole golden heart and from their beaks grows the tree of life which symbolizes the new family tree that they will bring into the world.
This art is fully customizeable for the couple. I can put your own vows into it, as well as the names of the bride and groom. As a minister I have helped couples write their vows and can work with a couple to make sure they have said what is in their hearts.
I hope this ketubah inspires everyone who is in love to reflect on the vows they have made to each other.

A ketubah (Hebrew: כְּתוּבָּה ; "written thing"; pl. ketubot) is a special type of Jewish prenuptial agreement. It is considered an integral part of a traditional Jewish marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom, in relation to the bride. Nevertheless, there is no agreement in modern times as to the monetary worth of the ketubah, and its enforceability even in Jewish courts is in question even in theory; in practice it is never enforced
The Modern Ketubah - a marriage certificate between a bride and groom of any faith or non-denominational couple. The art can be reflective of whatever the couple feels reflects them.

Stunning work, Michele. I believe that the practice of artfully mutual exchanging jewelry (as in the exchange of rings and hand written vows) adds to the intentional solemnity of the wedding. Aware of my love for natural star sapphires, my husband-to-be gave me a diminutive ruby star sapphire on the morning of our wedding which I wore on my right hand...for something NEW! I purchased his Art Carved white gold wedding band which had a thin line of Diamond cut facet work thru it’s center and we customized our vows to match our intent. What a beautiful work of art!..LF
