The Viking replica ship, the Draken Harald Harfage, received a warm welcome when it arrived in Portland, Maine in late July, 2018. As the Norse vessel approached its berth in Portland harbor, a Roderick McAllister port tugboat performed this eye-catching welcoming water salute.
This ceremonial salute, reserved for special occasions, involves a tug spraying water from its fire-fighting hoses. It’s a little akin to the celebratory custom of opening a bottle of bubbling, overflowing champagne!
