Tricolored Heron in Breeding Plumage by Debra Martz I had my lens focused on another Tricolored Heron that was fishing when I caught movement from my side vision...wow! It instantly stole all my attention. This has to be the brightest, most vibrant, most "decorated" heron I've ever seen while in breeding plumage. It was May 14 and the other herons in the area still had some of their color and the white plumes but nothing compared to this one!

Debra, because I saw this a few days ago, I seemed quite smart to some friends when we saw a pair of little blue herons. One was fluffed up and strutting like this one and I told my friends it was mating behavior. Thanks for sharing and educating us!
