Description
New Row, the Lemon Arms and the village pump on Lemon Hill in Mylor Bridge Cornwall.
Contrary to its name, New Row is an old little lane that runs alongside the Lemon Arms.
Sir Charles Lemon of Carclew granted long leases on the land alongside the Inn which was then called the Griffin Inn when an area of Mylor Churchtown was purchased for the navy in 1805 enabling houses to be built for the workers connected with the new dockyard. Until then there were no building here at all.
Unsurprisingly the lane was known as Navy Lane for over a century showing the influence the Royal Navy had on this area during that time. The first record showing it to be called New Row was in 1901.
