Teton dusk happens fast, with only minutes to photograph it. The sun setting panorama on the 40 mile long mountain range that is called the Teton Range.The Teton Range is largely made up of extremely old Precambrian metamorphic rocks known as gneiss, which are the hardest and least-porous rocks known to geologists. About two and a half billion years ago, magma cracked through the gneiss, forming intrusions that cooled over time to form granite. Because granite is harder than gneiss, granite caps most of the jagged peaks in the range, including the Grand. They are actually some of the youngest mountains in the world. The landscape offers picturesque scenery with beautiful alpine lakes filled with the melted glacial waters that reflect the images of the mountains like a magical mirror. Many streams flow down the rocky canyons and cascade into the lakes at the bottom of the mountains.The Bridger-Teton National Forest is the largest national forest in the lower 48 states, encompassing is 3.4 million acres in Wymoing and is adjacent to Grand-Teton National Park,and Yellowstone National Park.
