Description
This abstract was initially designed to illustrate the pain associated with the deterioration of a romantic relationship between two people due to their respective need for love, respect, and affection from the other manifesting as a struggle for power and control in the relationship. It shows how entanglements of their life (children, shared property, etc.) can provide an incentive for a couple to continue working to rise above their differences to find common ground and peace for the greater good. On a larger scale, this piece is allegorical on society when that society becomes polarized into 2 primary camps along ideological grounds. Like in a personal relationship, tension between those camps continues to rise unless a willingness to find common ground can achieved. The dagger in the center depicts those camps becoming so entrenched in their individual ideologies that they become blind to the opposing view and left unchecked their disdain for the opposing viewpoint transforms into disdain for the people in the camp with that opposing ideology. A willingness to compromise by both camps and find common ground for the greater good is the difference between being a "civil"-ized society rather than just a society.
