3rd Place Win in the contest FLOWERING TREE PAINTINGS,

This is my digital painting of a voluminous tamarisk tree in full bloom. The tamarisk (also tamarix or salt cedar) bush or tree, a domesticated version of the ones Abraham planted by a well in Beersheba, Gen. 21:33, include several varieties and grow in diverse environments usually along streams. It can be quite colorful in early summer, with creamy pinks, and lacy light green foliage. They European varieties are best for ornamentals.
Tamarisk has been used for various medicinal purposes as well, traditionally used for gastrointestinal disorders, wounds, diabetes, and dental problems. Phenolic acids, flavonoids, and tannins constitute the main phytochemicals of these plants.
However, it has become a less desirable invasive species in the more arid parts of the USA, thought to increase fire frequency, change streambed hydrology, lower water tables, and increase soil salinity.

Additional information:
Tamarisk (also known as salt cedar) is a deciduous shrub or small tree from Eurasia. Tamarisk can grow as high as 25 feet tall. The bark on saplings and young branches is purplish or reddish-brown. Leaves are scale-like, alternate, with salt-secreting glands. - Dec 17, 2013:

What is the threat? Tamarisk is a thirsty plant with a high evapotranspiration rate, taking lots of water and releasing it into the air. It competes with native plants and can displace riparian habitat. ... It increases fire frequency, changes streambed hydrology, lowers water tables, and increases soil salinity. - Mar 1, 2015:
