Description
The Sydney Harbour bridge, an image that is known around the world as a symbol and icon of Australia. It is also a great historic monument and that is why I have chosen to produce this image in black and white to remind us of that history.
Construction started in 1923 and the bridge was opened on the 19th March 1932, the New South Wales Premier Jack Lang was expected to cut the ribbon and open the bridge. However, a man called Francis de Groot in military uniform rode his horse onto the bridge and cut the ribbon declaring the bridge open in the name of the people of Australia.
This is one of those great stories in history and whether your on the side of the premier or the loan horseman it shows the spirit of the people of Australia and the diversity of its history.
