The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant native to the Americas. It possesses a large flowering head, and its name is derived from the flower's shape and image, which is often used to capture the sun. The plant has a rough, hairy stem, broad, coarsely toothed, rough leaves, and circular flower heads. The heads consist of many individual flowers which mature into seeds, often in the hundreds, on a receptacle base. From the Americas, sunflower seeds were brought to Europe in the 16th century, where, along with sunflower oil, they became a widespread cooking ingredient. Leaves of the sunflower can be used as cattle feed, while the stems contain a fibre which may be used in paper production.

I agree. Couldn't help but smile all day after coming across this sunflower field :)

Love sunflowers and love this panorama. Because sunflowers grow so tall I usually shoot them in a vertical format. I really like this angle and horizontal composition and the clarity of the flower in foreground. Very nice! V and Fave

Not sure what cracker! means, but I will take it as a compliment. Thank you, Wolf Shadow Photography :)

Really nice, K. Love the strength of the most prominent sunflower, and all so pretty against the blue sky with cirrus clouds. v

Very cheerful companion for gloomy winter. Like the extra wide format. Great image, K! F&V#79
