Description
Walking down a side street in the very small Community of Seldovia Alaska I found this fascinating porch decorated with all sorts of oddities. The old home appeared to be uninhabited, but in Alaska, one can never tell for sure. Several wood chainsaw carvings including a very cute Spongebob Squarepants, a bear and a whale keep their eyes on passersby.
Seldovia is home to an annual chainsaw wood carving competition in which contestants tranform spruce logs into works of art while spectators watch. Over 30 of these large wood carvings can be seen around town on the main street and the old boardwalk area.
