Description
This amazing rock, called Spider Rock, was taken as the sun created long shadows on the surrounding cliff walls, sharing the beauty with the pinion trees, green vegetation, and farmland of the Navajo people who live in this amazing canyon!
Rising some 700 feet from the Canyon floor of the North Rim of Canyon De Chelly, this iconic sandstone formation is a remnant of erosion by water and wind that still occurs today...as it has for thousands and thousands of years. The two spires rise from the floor, with the larger spire sporting an odd looking rock on the tip top. Named for Spider Woman, an important figure in Navajo folk lore, this is one amazing site to be certain to see when visiting the amazing Canyon de Chelly in Chinle, Arizona.

You are welcome Debby for the Homepage Feature. Promoting this in Beauty Of Arizona, discussion thread, Famous Rock Formations and Mountains of Arizona. Visited there once back in 2007. Chinle is an interesting town, had no cell phone service, and even the landline was difficult. I also discovered something kind of humorous, they didn't sell pantyhose anywhere, I would have to travel 60 miles away to do so. Canyon De Chelly was gorgeous, as you so aptly has shown us here with your photography. If I ever travel that area again, it would be to visit Monument Valley, as I have never actually seen it in person. LF FB
