Description
Orthoporus ornatus is a North American species of millipede found in the Arizona, New Mexico and Texas - states in the southwestern part of the United States, and as far south as the San Luis Potosà in Mexico. Friendly nonvenomous critters (unlike the centipede who has a painful and venomous bite) they are fascinating to watch and learn about. You can do so on my YouTube channel at www.youtube.comm/waywardmuse. This one was photographed by a desert wash about 50 miles south of Phoenix in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona during monsoon season - the wet season in the desert - when millipedes come out in force!

How long are they? Big around? I've held an African Millipede... wondered how they compare.
Judy Kennedy replied:
Hi Jennifer! Here's a video I did way back in 2007 that answers your questions. I've got more recent footage, just haven't finished finalizing it yet. Subscribe to my channel and you'll see it soon :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9T5wBjAGnc
