Description

This is real snowflake: medium size stellar dendrite (around 5-6 millimeters from tip to tip), captured in January 2013.

This snow crystal is one of most beautiful stellar dendrites that i have captured previous winter, but it was hard to post-process, because i got problems with aligning serial shots (wind shifts and rotates this snowflake while i took series of photos). I like it's elegant structure and shape, especially arms with many small details: they remind me six swords, pointing inward.

This snowflake was captured on dark gray wool background in diffused light from winter stormy sky. My macro setup contains Canon Powershot A650is and external lens Helios 44M-5, mounted reversely in front of camera optics. This scheme have dramatically better magnification than standard macro mode.
