That thrill ~ when a skein* of Canada geese (Branta canadensis) unexpectedly flies within very close range, suddenly interrupting your flower photography... then wowing you with the avian majesty just witnessed.

The answer to your prayer may come when you least expect it:: On a recent nature walk, my flower photography was interrupted by a skein of Canada geese, honking their arrival as they flew close by.

I’ve wanted to take a photo of these majestic birds in flight, but from a unique perspective. Little did I realize how suddenly that heart’s desire was fulfilled most unexpectedly.

Take-away:: Be open to and prepare for the “suddenlies” God sends your way. We serve a God Who loves to surprise us!

This photo was made at a wildlife refuge along a tributary leading to San Francisco Bay.

“But just ask the animals,
and have them teach you;
And the birds of the sky,
and have them tell you.
Or speak to the earth,
and have it teach you;
And have the fish of the sea tell you.
Who among all these does not know
That the hand of the Lord has done this"?

As I review this image, I cannot help but think that God had these majestic birds lined up perfectly along the side of the photo to accomodate the Scripture verse so beautifully. The Creator is truly the Master of design and details!

* According to Merriam-Webster, "skein" (pronounced ˈskān) is a flock of geese or other wild birds in flight. When not in flight, they are known as a "gaggle".
