Title
Sheringham High Street
Artist
Martin Howard
Medium
Painting - Watercolour
Description
Sheringham, a popular seaside town in North Norfolk, England. This is an impressionist watercolour of Sheringham high street looking towards the seafront. This view has remained largely unchanged for many years and the town has managed to retain it's Olde Worlde charm despite the influx of huge numbers of tourists every year. The clock tower (town clock) was once a reservoir with drinking troughs for animals. Nowadays, it is used as a sheltered seating area for passersby. The town is also home to a heritage railway, The North Norfolk Railway which was reconnected to the national rail network in 2010. I was first introduced to Sheringham as a child. In those days, I was most interested in the beach, the railway and the putting green, all the while subconsciously taking in the charm and beauty of the town that would draw me back there many times throughout my life. It's been too long since I was there last, but I hope to return one day. In the meantime, I will content myself from time to time, by painting some of my favourite scenes from the town.
