Description
Shell ginger is frequently used in bridal bouquets in the Islands. I photographed this along a highway on Kauai in Hawaii. Oftentimes it look as thought these shrubs were planted as sound barriers along road. In actually, these ginger plants spread like wild fire. Their white shell ginger blossoms with pink tips can be easily spotted. The lush green leaves and wide and very long and sometimes used to make hula skirts, thought mostly Ti leaves would be used for skirts. Tropical flowers and their leaves have so many uses in Hawaiian culture.
