Description
The Science Museum of Virginia, located in Richmond, Virginia is a science museum with plenty of interactive experimental exhibits, artifacts, and programs for families. The Grande Kugel Ball sits out front of the museum and is a favorite for children who can make it spin with a slight touch. The Kugel Ball sits in a perfectly concave cup. Water is at the bottom of this cup, making this a fun science event, that no matter what age, people love to make this large granite ball spin around.
The Science Museum of Virginia was formerly Broad Street Station also known as Union Station. It was built in 1917, and served the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, the Norfolk and Western Railroad. It also served Amtrak's Silver Meteor and Silver Star. Passenger service at the Broad Street Station ceased in 1975. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
I have fond memories of riding the train to Washington D.C. on class trips. The old wooden benches, boxed school lunches and a fun train ride with 25 excited elementary classmates
