Description
I went out early one morning in Salamanca Spain for some photography before the crowds awoke. When I first went out, the sky was clear but by the time I arrived at the cathedral, a heavy fog was rolling in nearly obscuring the dome. As the heavy fog settled, it seemed to extinguish all sound and movement, creating this silent atmosphere. The cathedral in Salamanca is a curious mix of the ‘old’ cathedral and the ‘new’ cathedral, the new cathedral being incorporated into the old. As a result, the initial construction of the new cathedral (starting in 1513) was in the Gothic style of the old cathedral but eventually morphed into the more ornate Baroque style by its completion in the early 1700s. The new cathedral was declared a national monument by royal decree in 1887.
