Description
These Inca structures atop Machu Picchu in Peru were built to echo the outlines of the sacred mountains in the background mists. Machu Picchu, the capstone of the Inca civilization, was built app. 1460-1470 A.D. by Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui between two mountains, Machu Picchu (Old Peak) and Hoaynaw (New Peak) overlooking the Urubamba River Canyon about forty-three miles northwest of Cuzco. Machu Picchu was abandoned by the natives because they feared an attack. This attack never came because no one could find it until it was in ruins already. A shame, they even had running water in the king's room! The official "discovery" was July 24, 1911.
One of the few pre-Columbian ruins found nearly intact, Machu Picchu was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

This one indeed worth a revisit and share Barbie-Such a draw!!Too bad you didn't camp out there a few days. Think of the captures and stories you might have had to share. Echoing sound drifts, various light moods, and the spooky and thrilling tales that surely would have come forth from the adventure/L/F/Tw

One can feel the sacredness of this wonderful capture Barbie. It amazes me that once a civilization is gone as such, that no other civilization moved in to replace it. Seems it would have been a logical choice being the great structure was already there.
Barbie Corbett-Newmin replied:
They vacated it because they feared an attack that never came because no one could find it until it was in ruins already. A shame, they even had running water in the king's room!
