Description
So peaceful and calm today as i take a wander along the River Esk in Musselburgh. The River Esk runs in to the Firth of Forth, which itself runs out to the North Sea.
I live not to far away from Musselburgh and my family on both sides come from around this area too.
As i wander along you can see the Old Stone Bridge which itself has a fascinating history. Rumoured to be the site of an old Roman Bridge, but definitely renovated and rebuilt over the many centuries of the bridges existence. The bridge was an important crossing, from the romans to the english armies the bridge has been known as the high road from England. The Bridge has 3 archways.
Today this final stretch of the River Esk which runs directly through Musselburgh offers a leisurely walk and great place to see the birds and especially the ducks that have settled here.
Musselburgh East Lothian known as the Honest Toun is great little town that sits east of Joppa and Portobello and is roughly 8 miles from Edinburgh City centre, many buses will take you here.
Musselburgh is also the site of the worlds oldest golf course, Old Course Musselburgh and also the world famous independent school of Loretto. One of their most famous pupils was Portrait artist Alan Sutherland.
Musselburgh is definitely worth a visit and be sure to visit the Lucas ice cream shop, you will not want to miss that.
