I choose where we stayed very carefully, doing lots of research and decided to spend four nights in Possa di Fassa, in Trento district, a couple of hours from Venice. This area is well known for it's skiing and mountain climbing in the summer. Off to the left you can see one of the ski lifts which also operate in the summer months for those wanting to take in the views and hiking. This view was taken from the hotel we stayed near sunset when the shadows are long and the colors are fabulous. The apartment hotel had mountain views from both their front and back property. If you think I love these sharp peaked mountain...you are correct. These needle sharp tips are so different from the mountains we see in the United States especially on the east coast mountain word down with old age.
The enchanting world of the Dolomites, a type of light colored limestone rock, come ancient legends and myths. Formed some 40 million years ago these mountain peaks can be stunning when the sun shines on them either the beginning or end of the day.
The valley is characterized by the Avisio river and thanks to the famous Sella Group mountains, is known as one of the most renowned Alpine valleys. The Ladin language is spoken by the majority of the permanent residents.
The ski areas of the valley are all part of the Dolomiti Superski area, the largest association of ski areas in the world.
