Description
The view of the north coast village of Portreath in Cornwall from the cliffs of Lighthouse Hill as the rain clouds approach.
Built in 1846, the day-mark on top of Lighthouse Hill North Cliff at Portreath is known locally as the Pepperpot. Used for navigation now it was once coastguard lookout and a Huer's Hut, used by fishermen to spot the shoals of pilchards and direct the boats with their nets to trap the fish.
There is still a safe harbour at Portreath but it is used mostly by pleasure craft now as the fishing fleet has dwindles over the years.
