Description
Fine art desert landscape photograph capturing the geologic splendor of Jurassic-period petrified sand dunes. These rippled and wind-sculpted Navajo sandstone domes, swirled with undulating ribbons of butterscotch and taffy, began as sand dunes beside a shallow inland sea.
The dunes began to harden and calcify 190 million years ago. Scouring wind and rain have continued to shape these frozen dunes, exposing their cross-bedded layers of banded strata. This desert southwest landscape was captured in northern Arizona within the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. Fine art prints available for sale.

The clarity and color in your photos is wonderful. Nice work!
Kathleen Bishop replied:
Thank you, Chris! I think we may be kindred souls in our appreciation of desert ecology and geology.
