Description
When a pangolin feels threatened, it curls up into a ball, protecting its head with the rest of its body which is covered with sharp scales. Pangolins consume ants and termites, in addition to larvae and a few other insects. Pangolins are one of the most trafficked mammals in Asia, particularly in China and Vietnam. Their meat is considered a delicacy and their scales are used in traditional and folk medicine to treat a range of ailments. There have been numerous reports stating that Covid-19 may have been transmitted from pangolins and bats to humans, beginning in an outdoor food market in China. Whether or not this is the case, this would not be the fault of the pangolins but of their exploitation. Left alone in their habitat they pose no danger to humans. Part of the 100 WILD ANIMAL MINI-PRINTS series.
