Orange was Frank's favorite color. He wore as much orange in his private wardrobe as possible. I learned this from his habidasher. This painting was from the seminal sessions with the Count Basie orchestra. The album recording session was produced by my old friend the late NEAL HEFTI. I chose this color palette as Orange was Frank's favorite color to wear. Of course you didn't actually see him wear an orange suit but our eyes don't see this painting quite that way. I knew one of Frank's tailors in Beverly Hills and he told me that on a buying trip to Italy if he found say a mohair sweater in orange, he would buy it and as many as he could take back. He would call up Frank Sinatra and let him know he had a sweater he might like. Frank would drop by and fall in love with the orange garment. He would buy it immediately and he would also take the rest of them.
