Title
No Mind Or Mushin
Artist
Nadja Van Ghelue
Medium
Painting - Ink On Rice Paper
Description
This calligraphy in the cursive style of Japanese calligraphy shows the two Japanese characters mu and shin. Mushin, wu hsin in Chinese, literally means no-mind or no-thought. Mu-shin is the mind free of dualism, unbiased, free of afflictions and conscious of its Buddha-nature. The concept of mushin is the heart of Zen Buddhism and the heart of the teachings of the 6th Zen Patriarch, the Chinese Master Hui-neng.
You can read more about mushin at my web page http://www.theartofcalligraphy.com/zen-calligraphy-scroll-mushin
The two kanji brushed in sosho or cursive style are:
無 mu - no
心 shin - mind, thought
Beneath the mushin calligraphy stands the first line of a poem of the Chinese Tang Poet Han Shan
