Nature's Roundabout Hazard

Description
This huge cottonwood tree makes an imposing road hazard, and is protected and treasured by residents of nearby tiny Brayton, Iowa. About 165 years ago, which was before the start of the Civil War in 1861, a surveyor was marking the county line between Audubon and Cass counties. Needing a stick to mark the area, he used a sprout of a tree, as the story goes. Returning a long time later, the cottonwood sprout had started to grow. Rather than remove it, the local roads adapted. It has now grown to be about 100 feet tall and about 18 feet around, right in the middle of the intersection of two gravel roads!
This would make an amazing throw pillow, shower curtain, puzzle, mug, or greeting card, in addition to wall art choices. Please visit lindabrittain.pixels.com for MANY other gift and home decor suggestions.
