Description
This image was taken at the North Port campus of the State College of Florida on a beautiful, sunny morning. The State College of Florida campus is about 100 acres and is open to local residents and visitors to visit to enjoy the large wetlands area which attracts many of Florida's coastal birds and wildlife to the shallow lakes and ponds. There is a paved trail around the lake and residents are invited to enjoy the natural environment. Many photographers also frequent the trail for glimpses of the beautiful coastal birds.
The herons are long-legged freshwater and coastal birds in the family Ardeidae, with 64 recognized species, some of which are referred to as egrets or bitterns rather than herons.
