Morning Light At The Grand Canyon
Artist
Steve Henderson
Medium
Painting - Oil On Panel
Description
Morning is not something to be rushed.
It is, all the time, in the “modern” world of civilization and commerce, with people paying far more attention to the alarm on their phone than they do to the sun. This is what we are taught and trained to do, to the point that it seems normal.
But in nature, for time immemorial, morning takes the time that it needs to fully emerge. First there is the slightest glow on the horizon, then the first glint of sun as it peeks over the edge, then the emergence of light and color and shadow as the sun rises, stately and slowly, into the sky and begins its journey through the day.
The artwork, Morning Light at the Grand Canyon, celebrates this measured, majestic dance of light and color, of silence broken by nature’s sounds, of the gentle unfolding of the new day.
And it does this, every single day. It matters not to the Arizona Grand Canyon landscape whether humanity on the planet uses hour glasses or cell phones. No mater how intent one is to change things, how determined to impose a sense of efficiency and time management upon the surroundings, the sun will rise at the pace it does, at the pace it always has.
There is comfort in this, knowing that in the grand, large scheme of things, control is not given over to people in power who are accustomed to imposing themselves upon others. As we stand here, at the edge of the canyon and looking out into its depths, our hearts and minds fall into step with the pace that nature sets, and we are able to rest, to reflect, to think, and to wonder.
A companion piece to Morning Light at the Grand Canyon is Evening Light at the Grand Canyon, also on this site.
(The original oil painting of Morning Light at the Grand Canyon is 4 inches high by 12 inches wide. Significantly larger images of the work will show the textured detail of the brush strokes and paint texture, as well as glints of white -- specks -- that reflect the light off the paint. These are all an integral parts of the image.)
