Description
Mockingbird Revenge.
A Red Tailed Hawk has preyed on this Mockingbird's nest, and returned to his post on a large Pine Tree. The Mockingbird is taking revenge by "attacking" the Hawk.
Northern Mockingbird attacking this larger bird of prey. Smaller birds chase these predators out of their territories so that they will be safer at night. ... Or if the Bird of Prey has robbed the smaller bird's nest of young.
If you've been hearing an endless string of 10 or 15 different birds singing outside your house, you might have a Northern Mockingbird in your yard. These slender-bodied gray birds apparently pour all their color into their personalities. They sing almost endlessly, even sometimes at night, and they flagrantly harass birds that intrude on their territories, flying slowly around them or prancing toward them, legs extended, flaunting their bright white wing patches.
The red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey, one of three species colloquially known in the United States as the "chickenhawk," though it rarely preys on standard sized chickens. It breeds throughout most of North America, from western Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies, and is one of the most common buteos in North America.
The red-tailed hawk occupies a wide range of habitats and altitudes, including deserts, grasslands, coniferous and deciduous forests, agricultural fields and urban areas. It lives throughout the North American continent, except in areas of unbroken forest or the high arctic. It is legally protected in Canada, Mexico and the United States by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

A great photo story, well timed and shot! Much as they guarded and attacked, my local mockingbirds were unable to keep their babies from being eaten by crows. :(

Fantastic capture, Linda! I see this so often with the crows around here...they gang up on hawks the very moment they see them alight on a tree.
