Midnight Magnolia II is a collage and acrylic painting offered by fine artist Shadia Derbyshire. This collaged painting celebrates the elegance and grace of southern magnolias. I photographed these when i visited South Carolina. The painting began as a soft under painting in acrylic, over which i layered various papers to create more refined shapes and patterns. I collaged the piece with hand torn, and painted, stamped, stenciled or otherwise embellished papers. Finally, I added beautiful foiled accents to really make the artwork pop and catch the light. The holographic foil ties in nicely with the interference glaze i coated the night sky in. This piece is on gallery wrapped canvas with a finish edge that reveals the art work process. It is coated to protect the papers and colors from the effects of UV light.
