Macy's 2020 Pop-up Fireworks by Regina Geoghan. A view of two Macy's barges setting off fireworks on the Hudson River as part of a week-long Independence Day celebration. This year, due to the Covid-19 virus, the fireworks displays are a significant departure from times past. Each day leading up to July 4th this week, one of these five minute shows 'happened' someplace around the city or city boroughs, either on land or water. Location information was not released and they are kept to the five minute limit to avoid people gathering in crowds to see them. The televised show will be aired with a line up of performers, but with a virtual format and I assume clips from these short displays of the fireworks.
