Little Blue Heron At St. Marks

Description
This little blue heron is perched on a palmetto frond at the edge of the marshes at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in northwest Florida.
This image was captured on my first visit to the national park a couple of weeks after Hurricane Michael wreaked havoc and left great devastation when it made landfall just a short distance to the west. The storm surge and winds which the preserve suffered were evident, and there were snapped trees and lots of debris, as visible here. The day I was there the bird population seemed sparser than usual, so this Little Blue Heron was a welcome sight. However, happily, birdwatchers have reported a rich variety of residents and migratory visitors on their visits, including an American Flamingo, which hasn't been seen in the refuge for many years, so this cute little fella now has lots of company!
