"Layers of Charbonneau"
This is the memorable view of what little remains of Charbonneau ND, as it unfolds before your eyes driving in from the NE on the gravel county road. You can see multiple layers here - the cemetery just to left of foreground, the two remaining (but abandoned) elevators, the two-room country schoolhouse on left side, and in far distance, the oil production associated with the massive Bakken oilfields. The old schoolhouse, seen in this image, was closed in the 50's. Charbonneau was once a thriving town on the Great Northern rail, and had bank, several grocery stores, a John Deere dealer, post office, blacksmith, hotel, cafe, and more. Now, nothing remains aside from two abandoned elevators, the abandoned post office, and abandoned two-room schoolhouse and lots of empty, burned-out foundations.
