Description
The scene portrayed here is from Rhyolite Nevada a ghost town located just outside of Death Valley National Park. The sculptures were created by a group of artists from Belgium seeking to work in a secluded place free from the restraints of European society. They were led by Albert Szukalski . Rhyolite came into existence when a couple of miners found gold and the town boomed to a population high of 10,000 in the sweltering heat of the Mojave Desert. When gold did not pan out for the fortune seekers the town eventually became what it is today a collection of buildings slowly disappearing with only a semblance of what they once were. The ghostly sculptures pictured are part of a re-creation of "The Last Supper" Nearby is the Red Barn Art Center where new artist residency and artist workspace programs are offered. The Open Air Museum where this sculpture and others is open at all times. More of my work can be seen from this area as well as other locations in my galleries here in FAA
