Description
This ladybug climbed up a wild cornflower and rested at the top of the bud. I was out taking macro shots of flowers and bugs and spotted (pun intended) this little one. I think it almost looks like part of the flower bud and that is what caught my eye.
Ladybugs are a type of beetle in the Coccinellidae family of insects. They are also called Ladybird beetles. They usually have nine spots of them with one spot shared at the front base of their wings. They only live about 4 weeks so in the average Spring and Summer season you will actually see many generations of this insect. They are beneficial to the environment because they control pests such as aphids and mites.
Cornflowers are also known as Bachelor’s Button flowers. They are scattered in my area among the wildflowers. It is in the Asteraceae family and they are native to Europe but are planted with the wild flowers here in the south.
