Description
This is a macro view of a ladybug on wild oat grass in the morning. I believe it was having a drink of the tiny dew drops that is on the stalks. I love how the red of the ladybug stands out in the greens of the grass.
Ladybugs are part of Phylum Arthropoda of the Insecta class of Coleoptera which are beetles. They are in the Coccinellidae family and there are about 150 species of these insects in the United States.
Wild Oats (Avena fatua L.) are a tall cool-season grass that grows in bunches. They grow from 3 inches to almost 5 feet tall if left alone. It grows in desert, grassland and woodland areas. We have a lot of woodland and grasslands around my area. Fun fact: they can produce over 19,000 seeds per pound.
