Each image in this series pays homage to the famed artist Man Ray, who was a significant contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements. He produced major works in a variety of media but considered himself a painter above all. He was best known in the art world for his avant-garde photography, and he was a renowned fashion and portrait photographer. His works often depicted the sensuality and beauty of women. Ray is also noted for his work with photograms, which he called "rayographs" in reference to himself.

Man Ray's influence on this series is based on the concept of beauty in physical form and the sensual interaction between men, women and nature. His works featuring the Black Dahlia in particular affected this series. It is the presence of black in those pieces that defines the atmosphere of this homage.
