Description
The Korean War Veterans Memorial is on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The memorial consists of 19 statues of soldiers that are walking together as if through rugged terrain. They are heavily dressed with big ponchos and are encumbered with various gear. Each soldier represents one of the four branches of the military -- the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force -- and carries the equipment that its branch of the military used in the war. The statues also reflect various physical and mental states, such as exhaustion, confusion, resolve and trepidation, but as a unit they appear strong and are forging ahead. The memorial opened in 1995 and is located near the Lincoln Memorial directly across the Reflecting Pool from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
This photograph shows seven of the nineteen statues.
